FFN pays for a child to study on a boarding or day-school basis at Alpha
High School, a private English medium school in Kathmandu.
Boarding students are provided with all their meals, accommodation, books,
and casual clothes as well as their school uniform. The boarder remains in
the school during the term time and depending on his/ her family
background may return home during the holidays.
A day- student has his/ her school fees, lunch at the school, and books
paid for. FFN also covers all the children for any medical expenses that
may arise.
FFN representative Prenana Thapa also visits the school once a week to
check up on the children and to take them on outings.
2. Project Work
FFN annually funds a series of grass-root community projects within the
Kathmandu Valley. These projects normally target small, government run
schools, where the teachers are highly active in seeking to develop the
school's infrastructure. Projects range from £100 to £500, and are granted only following a detailed proposal by each school on how the funds will be used.
FFN also works closely with larger Nepali NGOs on national projects, for example Maiti Nepal, Women's Foundation and Prayas. These projects range from child trafficking awareness campaigns (with Maiti Nepal), to helping
victims of domestic violence (with Women's Foundation), to
drug-rehabilitation and street children programmes (with Prayas). These projects range from £1000 to £4000 depending on the size of the target area.
3. Charity Trek
Both as a fundraising tool and as a means of increasing general awareness of Nepal and Future For Nepal's activities, FFN for the past 3 years has been organising charity treks to Nepal. Although these treks have currently only involved university student groups, FFN is looking to expand into the more general population.
