Volunteer Today

1. Why volunteer in Nepal?

It is a fantastic opportunity to get a feel for true Nepali life, while at the same time making a positive contribution to a country.

2. Where will you be working and for how long?
Volunteers will be placed at Alpha’s High School for a period of three to six months.

^top

3. What will you be doing?

Volunteers will spend their days teaching in the primary school (where classes range from nursery to class 6). Their evenings will involve helping the hostel children, including the children FFN sponsors, with their homework and playing sports with all the children. Although the weekends are free time for the volunteers, we encourage the volunteers to take the FFN children on sponsored outings, such as swimming, picnics or even the cinema.

4. Where will you be staying and what will you be eating?

Volunteers live in the school itself, where they will be provided with free accommodation and cooked meals. The accommodation is, however, simple and the food is the Nepalese staple dish of Dhal-Bhat.

5. What do we expect from volunteers?
We seek only those volunteers who are keen and dedicated to making a real difference.

6. Are their any age requirements?

Volunteers should be over 18 years old.

7. What type of volunteer placement is this?
It is directed at independent individuals. Volunteers are expected to organize their own flights to Nepal, as well as their own travel insurance. Although they are met at the airport and taken to the school by a FFN representative, Prerana Thapa, such representative is only on hand to provide assistance during the placement period.

8. When are the placement periods?
• The first week of January for 3 months
• The last week of April for up to 6 months
• The last week of October for 3 months

9. What is the cost?
We do not ask the volunteers for any money, but if a volunteer teacher should like to make a contribution either to FFN or Alpha’s, then any donation will be greatly appreciated.
