1. Once a sponsor is found, what happens then?
It takes up to 8 weeks between a sponsor coming forward and a child beginning his/ her studies in Alpha. It takes about four weeks to find a child that deserves sponsorship. The child then visits the school with his/ her family in order to ensure that he/ she would like to study there. The child's uniform is then made, books are bought, and the child will then join the school. Once studying in Alpha, a sponsor will receive feed back every month on the child's progress.
2. How are the children selected?
FFN believes it is important to help children who live near Alpha High School, as well as those who live in the regional parts of Nepal . Local children therefore become the day scholars, while the regional children become boarders. Each child is chosen on an individual background basis, rather than having to fit a specific criteria. FFN requires only three basic things from the child:
- the child is needy, i.e. without FFN's support the child will not obtain any form of good education;
- the child and family are happy for him/her to study in the school; and
- the child recognizes the opportunity he/she has been given and will seize it with both hands.
As you can imagine, however, selecting a child is no easy task, but fortunately FFN has community leaders who help in this process.
3. What happens if a sponsor drops out?
In the event that a sponsor does drop out, FFN has a contingency fund that will be used to support the child until another sponsor can be found.
4. What happens to one-off payments?
Such money will be saved until we have enough to pay for one child's full education. FFN believes this is the best way to handle such funds, as we want to be able to guarantee a child's education.
5. What if I want to help, but can not afford to give any money?
FFN welcomes all volunteers to help fund-raise in any way. Such people are truly invaluable to our small charity.
