Quarterly Newsletter

January – March 2006

A few words from the Chairman:

‘I would like to begin by thanking our sponsors and donors for helping to make Future For Nepal such a success. Without your generosity, none of this could have been possible. It seems strange for me to look back and think that FFN has only been running for a year, so much has been achieved in such a short period of time. It is testament to the time and dedication of the entire FFN team. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to Prerana Thapa, our Nepali representative, for her professionalism and commitment to FFN. Also on behalf of Future For Nepal, I would like to pass on our congratulations to Prerana on the birth of a healthy baby boy and wish everyone a Happy Nepali New Year!’

An overview of FFN activity

During the last three months, FFN has had the privilege of being able to support 2 more hostel children at Alpha High School, bringing the total number of children to 14.

We have begun, in collaboration with Alphas, a volunteer programme with our first volunteer coming to work in the school in the summer.

Along with Durham, we have also linked up with Oxford and Leeds University as a part of our Everest Base Camp fundraising events. As such next summer we will be taking over 50 students out to Nepal, raising £35,000 for the charity and allowing us to sponsor 6 more hostel children and fund 9 one- off building projects.

Preparations for the charity auction and dinner to be held on the 25th of June at the Sherpa Kitchen are now complete, with prizes generously donated from a wide range of sources- hopefully allowing for all tastes.
