Dear Friends of FFN
I must first apologise for this monthly update being a few days overdue. My only excuse is that it has been a hectic couple of weeks, but things are finally beginning to calm down a little.
I would like to begin by taking this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of this Nepali cause, it is much appreciated. This month has seen the finalisation of the Oxford Everest Base Camp 2007 trip, a presentation at the annual Oxford University Alternative Careers Fair as well the organisation of FFN’s one year old birthday party.
For the Oxford 2007 Expedition FFN will be working in collaboration with the Women’s Foundation, a Nepali non- profit organisation set up in 1988 to address a variety of social, economic and political problems faced by women and children in Nepal. During their community phase, these students will be spending nine nights either working in a school, on a farm or in a shelter for victims of domestic and social violence. This group alone will raise £10,500 for the charity, allowing us to sponsor two more kids for ten years, and pay for three one-off projects- the building of roof in the two- roomed school in Dahachowk, the planting of 100 fruit trees on the farm in Dwakot and the painting of the shelter in Boudhanath.
The presentation at Oxford University last weekend was a huge success both in terms of promotion for the charity as well as the expedition, with many students seeming genuinely interested in the work of FFN. Such was the response that I now have the pleasure of welcoming Rachel and David, two Oxford students, to the FFN team as volunteer fundraisers.
FFN, on the 25th June, will be holding its one- year old birthday party in the form of a sit down meal at the Sherpa Kitchen in Esher, Surrey. It is going to be a night to remember and a great opportunity for all our supporters to get together in true Nepali style. This bonanza of event will not only involve a six course meal, with plenty of alcohol flowing, but will end with an auction of a few goodies kindly donated to the charity- the main one being a Mark Warner holiday for two.
At the moment our website is also in the process of being reshaped by Karun Thapa, our volunteer web designer in Nepal. So please visit it at: www.futurefornepal.com and send me back any feedback.
It is only through the kindness of individuals such as yourselves that allows us at FFN to continue to work tirelessly in our effort to help as many children in Nepal receive a good education. Thank you! If there are any questions about the activities of Future For Nepal, please feel free to contact me anytime by email or on: 07795972961.
Take Care
Tom Wells
