| FFN Newsletter- July to September 2008 |
Dear Friends of FFN Let me begin by thanking you all for your continued support of FFN and the Nepalese cause!!! The last 3 months have been as hectic as ever, with the opening of our drop-in-centre and half way home for street kids in Thamel and the completion of our 5 annual grass-root community projects. For more information on FFN project work, please visit: http://www.futurefornepal.com/current-projects.php. . In August, our 6 week-long Durham University Fundraising Himalaya Expedition arrived in Nepal. I am very pleased to announce that this trip was a huge success, with the entire group reaching Annapurna Base Camp (at an altitude of 5500m). The university students not only endured the physical challenge of a 12 day trek at high altitude, but also the cultural challenge of living with Nepalese families for two weeks. During this community phase the students taught in remote village schools, interacting with children who had previously little contact with westerners. The feed-back from the community leaders of each school was extremely positive, such that they all wanted the groups to stay longer. I am very pleased to also announce that Durham University will be venturing out to Nepal again next summer. I would like to take this opportunity to thank DUCK (Durham University Charity Kommittee) for their continued support of Future For Nepal, it is greatly appreciated. The FFN sponsored children are all doing very well and they are currently busy preparing for their first term examinations which I am sure that they will all do wonderfully in. Some of you may already be aware of this, but during my recent stay in Nepal, I introduced a new health programme for our children, whereby FFN is now taking on a more active role in our children’s health. Rather than simply taking the kids to the doctor when they are sick, we are now trying to prevent them from getting sick. As such, our children are now visiting the dentist on a 6-month check-up basis, as well as having the full range of inoculations against Hepatitis A & B, Meningitis, MMR, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis and BCG. This vaccination programme has only been possible due to the generosity of individuals such as yourselves, and as such I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your kindness. As the children are preparing for the October holidays, I would like to wish you all a happy Dashain and Tihar!! As ever, should any of you have any queries about FFN or our activities, please feel free to contact me anytime. Many Thanks, Take care, Tom Wells Pages: << Prev 1 Next >>
